Remembrance Day
Remembrance Day is universal to our nation. It is symbolic of our country’s unity in the face of adversity. On November 11th we pay homage to those who serve to protect our nation. This day presents itself as an opportunity to show our respect to the men and woman who have in the past and continue to put their lives on the line in service of you, of me, of our country. In memory of the fallen it is customary to provide 2 minutes or reflective silence.
Show your support by buying a poppy and wearing it proudly. Typically proceeds from your purchase will go towards supporting your local Legion or other Veteran’s services. The blood-red poppy itself is a symbol of remembrance as they were present during the second battle of Ypres in 1915. This in turn inspired Doctor Lieutenant-Colonel John McCrae to write of these flowers in the famous poem below:
In Flanders Fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
John McCrae
Don’t make the mistake of taking this day as a negative. Try to think of it more as a respectful celebration of our lives made possible by the sacrifice of those who serve. Join your community in a unifying commemorative at local monuments. Harbourview will be attending the ceremony held in Penetanguishene at the Cenotaph on Main Street. Join us and the rest of your community in remembrance of family and friends who have given the greatest sacrifice.
We would like to take this opportunity to show our respect by remembering our veterans. From all of us at the Harbourview family to all of our service men and woman, we would like to say Thank You, and your service will not be forgotten.
